Cuba's COVID-19 cases top 400,000

The country has been reporting more than 7,500 daily cases for 12 consecutive days, the ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran said during his daily report.

HAVANA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Cuba surpassed 400,000 accumulated COVID-19 cases, after recording 9,279 infections in the last 24 hours, for a total of 403,622, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Monday.

There were also 68 more deaths in the last day, according to the ministry, for a death toll of 2,913.

The country has been reporting more than 7,500 daily cases for 12 consecutive days, the ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran said during his daily report.

Havana registered 1,850 infections in the last day, followed by the provinces of Ciego de Avila (1,146), Matanzas (864) and Santiago de Cuba (636).

The Caribbean nation wrapped up its vaccination process against COVID-19 in Havana, with about 1.7 million people receiving three doses of one of the nationally-produced vaccine candidates.
